Soundscapes of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks
‘Soundscapes of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park’ is a interactive story map that seeks to tell the story of sound in these parks in order to better connect people to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. We started gathering audio, video, and images for the story map in the foothills at an elevation of around 1300 ft (400 m) and worked our way up the alpine ecosystem at over 14,000 ft (4300 m).
I was in charge of capturing the audio for the project. A combination of binaural and parabolic dish setups were used to record the sounds of animals such as birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects, as well as natural events such as thunderstorms, snowfall, mountain streams, wind, and melting snow.
