Exploring Soundscapes

‘Exploring Soundscapes’ was the culmination of a two year project that sought to capture the myriad of natural sounds found within Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in order to better connect people to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. We started work on the film in the foothills at an elevation of around 1300 ft (400 m) and worked our way up the alpine ecosystem at over 14,000 ft (4300 m).

I was in charge of capturing the audio for the project. A combination of binaural and parabolic dish setups were used to record the sounds of animals such as birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects, as well as natural events such as thunderstorms, snowfall, mountain streams, wind, and melting snow.
