Voices of a Flyway
As principal investigator and National Geographic Exlorer, I led our team - a soundscape recordist (myself), an audio producer, and a wildlife photographer - up the Mississippi Flyway, traveling from the Louisiana coastline to the Boundary Waters of Minnesota with the 2019 spring songbird migration. We visited six at-risk ecosystems along the route to uncover:
Why each of these delicate ecosystems is so critical to birds and bird migration
The infinite ways that people living in these areas share connections to the natural world.
What stands to be lost as these ecosystems vanish.
These perspectives will be shared in an 7-episode podcast series and six interactive online story maps which will, with rich experiential soundscape recordings, transport listeners deep inside the hearts of these ecosystems and help us understand the intricate ties we all share with the natural world.
